Abstract
A new type of fiber-Bragg-grating based fiber-laser system for long-distance stress/pressure sensing is experimentally demonstrated. We investigate the laser system output characteristics and evaluate sensor performance under different sensing distances incorporate the fiber Bragg gratings. The results show that this semiconductor optical amplifier-based laser sensor possesses a dynamic sensing distance up to 37 km at 350 mA injection current. Stress/pressure detection and reliable linear-cavity fiber laser sensing operation were successfully achieved.
