Abstract :
A new type of PIN photodetector linear array is designed and implemented to predict rainfall by measuring precipitation particles in cloud. On each die, there are two rows of photodiode line array, and each row has 64 photodiodes. The photocurrent of each diode is 2 μA, and the dark current is less than 600 pA. The conversion efficiency is about 0.4 A/W and quantum efficiency is 76.45%. This photodetector can be used to measure the diameter of precipitation particles in clouds, then rainfall can be judged based on the diameter of particles. The measurement range is from 100 μm to 6400 μm.
