Abstract
Summary form only given. The plasma produced as a result of the interaction of an intense short pulse of laser radiation with aluminum target is investigated and probed. The experiment is carried out with the first three harmonics of a Q-switched Nd-YAG laser source (Continuum model NY81-30) at wavelengths 1064, 532, and 355 nm corresponding to energies 430, 100, and 60 mJ, respectively, and pulse length of 8 nsec. The laser is focused spherically to a diameter of 300 /spl mu/m onto a flat solid aluminum target placed in a vacuum chamber.
