Abstract :
A new control IC has been developed which includes active power factor correction, ballast control, and a 600 V half-bridge driver output. An improved control method has also been developed for power factor correction using a modulation technique to achieve low harmonic distortion. The result is a high-performance complete fluorescent lamp ballast solution with a significant cost reduction. A complete nondimming ballast has been built that incorporates this new integrated circuit and verifies all of these features.
