At the inception of an ageing society in China, the issue of adding elevators to old residential building has attracted more and more attentions and become a pressing social problem. The paper focuses on some typical zones or buildings in different phases of adding elevators to old residential ones in Guangzhou, based on the approach that it combines quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. At the same time, in-depth interviews and questionnaire inquires are adopted when it comes to residents; moreover, results are statistically analyzed by using SPSS software, which are made the advantage of cross section analysis and comparative analysis against in-depth interview results. In the end, residents´ views are reflected accurately in this paper, aware of adding elevators to old residential buildings, and some relevant policy suggestions are put forward accordingly.
