Abstract
In this work, an innovative approach for designing rectifying antennas to be used in the terrestrial segment of space-based solar power systems is presented. The rectenna is composed by a set of receiving elements and it is supposed to be located on the surface of hilly isolated regions for security reasons as well as to reduce the interference with other systems. The proposed approach determine the locations of the rectenna elements (a) to avoid the presence of grating lobes in the radiation pattern and (b) to direct the backscattered field toward a mirror for further increasing the total collection efficiency of the rectifying system.
