Abstract :
Given the emphasis on standardization and harmonization regarding testing and specifications of Surge Protective Devices, this paper highlights the importance of and the topics covered in the IEEE standard C62.62™-2010, IEEE Standard Test Specifications for Surge-Protective Devices (SPDs) for Use on the Load Side of the Service Equipment in Low Voltage (1000 V and less) AC Power Circuits. Based upon the Trilogy of documents developed within the IEEE PES Surge Protective Devices Committee regarding the surge environment and testing of equipment connected within that environment, C62.62™-2010 provides much needed standard methods of testing and reporting the performance of Surge Protective Devices.
