Abstract :
Summary form only given. A modified Penning trap is described with an annular confinement region and a biased center conductor which carries current creating a toroidal magnetic field. A non-neutral electron plasma is confined axially by an electrostatic field and, in the radial direction, particles are constrained to lie within a small drift distance of a cylindrical flux surface. Drift orbits of all particles are banana-shaped and collisions cause neoclassical transport. Simulations of single particle motion including collisions with background neutrals have been made and these show transport arising from both electric mobility and banana diffusion. A toroidal electric field ("ohmic heating") creates a Ware drift which may be used to counteract the mobility drift thus making banana diffusion the dominant transport mechanism.
