Abstract :
A description is given of a flexible VLSI architecture for the motion-vector estimation which is required in the motion compensation technique. The architecture realizes the full-search block-matching algorithm which gives very accurate motion-vector information. On the basis of this architecture, a chip can be designed for different block sizes (8×8, 16×16, 32×32, etc.). Also, the same chips can be cascaded for larger tracking ranges
