Abstract :
In this paper, the authors presented a star-connected autotransformer based 24-pulse ac-dc converter. Analysis and development of the proposed ac-dc converter is done with Matlab prior to the implementation. Then a laboratory prototype is developed and test results are presented to validate the developed design procedure and the simulation models. The proposed autotransformer-based ac-dc converter has resulted in elimination of less than 23rd harmonic in the supply current. And the resulting supply current is near sinusoidal in sharp with low total harmonic distortion (THD). The autotransformer-based structure leads to a circuit of lower cost, weight, volume and space when compared with the conventional 6-pulse ac-dc converter. Thus the proposed 24-pulse ac-dc converter is ideally suited for retrofitting with existing motor drives.
