Abstract :
The design of a small Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) equipped Wave Sentry buoy can provide realtime remote measurement of wave data and ocean current profiles (surface to bottom) for operational and scientific exercises. The small size and weight of the system allows for deployment from small craft and provides military forces and the scientific community with valuable information to support operations, logistics and modeling. QinetiQ North America (QNA), formerly Planning Systems Incorporated, has designed and tested an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler Wave Sentry buoy for near real-time reporting of wave and current measurements in littoral areas. This paper will discuss the design and preliminary test results of the ADCP Wave Sentry.
