  • Abstract
Differential Phase Detection (DPD) method is now widely used for tracking error generation in DVD players. DPD is known to be relatively immune to the optical asymmetry, but in reality DPD offset results from the lens shift or disc tilt. To achieve a stable tracking servo property, it is necessary to reduce this DPD offset. In this paper, we suggest a simple model to clearly show the causes of DPD offset. The validity of this model is supported by intensive computer simulation which uses vectorial diffraction theory. Some experimental results are compared with calculation and discussed.
