Abstract :
A compact zeroth-order resonant antenna (ZORA) with improved radiation efficiency is proposed by employing a novel slot-loaded (SL) simplified composite right-/left-handed (SCRLH) transmission line (TL) structure. The operating frequency of the ZORA is independent of its physical size, but is only determined by its constituent unit-cell´s shunt resonant frequency. Due to the slots etched in the ground, the zeroth-order resonator´s quality factor can be reduced, so that the miniaturized ZORA can produce substantial improvement on the radiation efficiency. Meanwhile, a monopole-like radiation pattern with maximum gain of 2.3 dB is generated with only two-unit-cell configuration. The full-wave simulation results testify the theoretical analyses.
