Abstract :
Reliability assessments of WECC power system operations have become increasingly complex due to: a) constant operational challenges of advanced equipment such as flexible AC transmission systems, HVDC, and Phase-Shifters; b) operational disturbances such as the surge of inadvertent loop-flows that disturb the contractually binding energy transaction schedules; and c) the implementation of the many smart-grid components that bear unknown effects. Therefore, practical and functional training needs to be part of the solution. A project team comprised of the authors of this paper has developed comprehensive integrated DTS solutions for Reliability Coordination training. This paper presents a summary of this project.
