  • Abstract
A multitude of research has been conducted across the U.S. on hazard resilience and the need for coastal communities to be able to adapt to coastal storms. Two tools have been created to convey research findings to assist local decision makers as they make future preparations for storm events. The Coastal Resilience Index is a self-assessment tool communities can use to identify their vulnerabilities so they can address these weaknesses before the next storm. The StormSmart Coasts Network is a web-based tool that connects local officials to resilience-related resources, and allows communities to communicate and collaborate between local municipalities, states, and nationwide concerning issues such as coastal storms, sea level rise, and climate change. Both tools demonstrate how application of research findings makes a difference in coastal communities.
