Abstract
Renewable energies integration in modern power systems is the main available solution to overcome the several problems caused by conventional generation. Promising wind speed data obtained in many locations in Egypt encouraged the government to initiate comprehensive studies and projects to analyze the system performance at different levels of expected wind energy penetration. Estimating the new conventional capacity after wind energy integration is still a disputing topic. In addition, literature has not offered yet a concrete methodology to determine specifications and number of WTs suitable for certain location to achieve the optimum harvested energy. This paper proposes a feasible algorithm to estimate the new conventional generation capacity after the integration of several wind farms at different locations. The wind turbine type matching with concerned locations is implied through a well defined method. Grid frequency response is examined at certain frequency excursion event to emphasis the impact of wind farms connection and the conventional generation capacity mitigation on frequency performance. Egyptian case study real data is utilized to implement offered approaches. Simulation environments are Matlab and Simulink.
