Abstract :
In this paper, we consider a design problem of optimal smoothing and interpolating surface for given set of spatial data points. The surface is constructed by employing normalized, uniform, and bivariate B-splines as the basis functions. A concise representation for optimal surface is derived, yielding straightforward computational procedure. A design example is included.
