Abstract :
Canadian network operators are continuously evolving their telecommunication networks. To meet customer service objectives and to minimize operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) expenses, a focused technology deployment strategy is necessary. Optical network unit (ONU) deployment to better meet service requirements and business customer needs is discussed. Modernizing the access network can be performed through one of the pre-defined ONU technology deployment alternatives. Each of these deployment plans have their merits relative to the economics and the OAM&P savings. A prioritization process is mandatory in order to optimize network deployment plans and investments. The utility of utilizing ONUs for business modernization is demonstrated. There are opportunities in small, medium, and even large business applications
