Abstract :
A Broad/Narrow-band Power Line Communication (BPLC/NPLC) dual channel system is proposed that improves the data transmission throughput of TCP over PLC, which mitigates the bad effect of the half-duplex nature of BPLC. In the system, TCP-ACK packets are off-loaded from BPLC to NPLC at an appropriate timing and are filtered to adapt to the very low physical data rate of NPLC. A half-symbol version of NPLC is also examined. It is shown through detailed network simulations that the proposed system clearly outperforms the original BPLC single channel system in TCP throughput in both good and bad environmental conditions.
