Abstract :
By combining narrowband and broadband equipment into a common network, synergies may occur to reduce the overall network installation cost and maintenance cost. The potential synergies that can occur from such a combination are examined. Powering options for the narrowband and the broadband electronics are explored. Powering of the equipment by AC or DC sources, battery reserve considerations, and emergency powering must be considered. Physical arrangements of equipment, powering cables, and the outside plant are discussed. The impact of coupling narrowband and broadband equipment on installation, alarms, administration support, and maintenance is studied
