Abstract :
Summary form only given. A Rogowski coil for measuring the fast current pulse of a X-pinch, about 100 ns in rise time and 400 kA in amplitude, was designed, constructed and calibrated. In order to get fast time response, the coil was made with 40 turns equi-spacedly and sparsely wound on a polyethylene ring of 8.6 mm in diameter. The ring is made from a polyethylene-insulated cable with its outer conductor being removed. The cross section of the ring is 4.8 mm in diameter and the wire of the coil is 0.44 mm in diameter. A small foil made from stainless steel was used as an integrating resistor of 0.2 ohm that was connected directly to the output of the coil. The coil together with the integrating resistor was put inside a shielding box made from copper. The coil was calibrated with a square wave current pulse that is 400 A in amplitude, 1.5 ns in rise time and 100 ns in FWHM and good results were obtained.
