Abstract
Islands are commonly granted with significant renewable energy source potential. This paper proposes a novel self-reconfigurable strategy of island renewable energy sources. The proposed self-reconfigurable strategy can apply to such as solar photovoltaic arrays, wave energy generators and so on. In this paper just take the solar photovoltaic arrays as an example to verify the proposed strategy. The improved solar photovoltaic arrays with proposed self-reconfigurable strategy in this paper can automatically configure itself according to the dynamic load demand and the condition of each photovoltaic cell. And can self-heal from failure or abnormal operation of single or multiple cells, self-balance from cell state variations, and self-optimize to achieve the optimal energy conversion efficiency. These features improve the solar photovoltaic arrays energy extraction and are achieved by a new dynamic photovoltaic arrays configuration and a high-performance control strategy proposed in this paper. Finally, this self-reconfigurable strategy is demonstrated with extensive PSCAD simulation studies.
