Abstract :
Clean beaches and coastal waters are integral to California´s economy, environment and public health. Effective management of wastewater discharges and surface runoff is crucial to the preservation of marine life and aquatic habitats as well as the prevention of contaminated food sources, drinking water and recreational waterways. Therefore, tracking surface pollution is essential to managing and protecting coastal waters in the state. Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS) data and products will assist managers in tracking pollutants and coastal discharges, enabling more precise and timely management decisions.
