Abstract
The protection of large power converters, especially electrochemical rectifiers, is generally specified and built according to well known historic patterns. This paper reviews the function of several such equipments and details the shortcomings of the protection. Suggestions are made for improvements in the light operational experience and the availability of newer technologies.
