Abstract
A new edge-preserving filter which is called the modified multilevel FIR median hybrid (FMH) filter for image smoothing is reported. Subfilters of this filter combine the mean filter with an FMH filter. The performance of the subfilter is almost equal in edge preserving property and superior in noise smoothing ability to conventional subfilters. Experimental results indicate good performance
