Abstract
Electric system recovery after a deep voltage sag or short interruption produces a particular stress on the HBC (or cl) fuses protecting induction motors. The phenomenon is different from the hot-load pickup due to the large kinetic energy and EMF reductions of the pre-connected motors. After this instant the whole system demands extra energy, which stresses both the motor fuses and motor windings. The maximum value is higher than the direct start specific energy, which can produce the motor overload protection trip or the start of fuse aging process. It is concluded the need of taking into account the re-acceleration effect on the motor protection.
