  • Abstract
An investigation is made of the domain of application of existing grain formulas for signal flow graphs defined over rings. The author obtains criteria for gain formula admissibility, which is both algebraic and topological in nature. These results point out new connections between system theory and abstract algebra. In particular, the Jacobson radical is associated with causality in some situations
