Abstract :
Summary form only given. Relativistic magnetron is studied for high-power microwave generation. The studies have concentrated on conversion efficiency and extraction configuration. They were carried out through both experimental and simulation approaches. The experiments were carried out by using repetitive pulsed power generator "ETIGO-IV" (400 kV, 13 kA, 150 ns, 1 Hz). Different diode configurations were studied, including using the so-called "transparent cathode". The microwave output were analyzed and compared in frequency, mode, peak power, and rise time. Numerical simulations were performed using particle-in-cell simulation code "MAGIC". The results were used to design and optimize the device configurations, especially that with axial extraction of the output microwave. The simulation results were compared with the experimental results in order to understand the physical characteristics of each configuration and to give an optimized design of relativistic magnetron for operation on ETIGO-IV.
