Abstract
This paper presents an internationally interoperable marine meteorological information service implemented with the Automatic Identification System (AIS). The service is delivered with both the shore-side system and the shipboard application platform. It is targeted not only to providing services to AIS-fitted vessels but also to collecting weather reports from ships. The intended coverage area includes coastal Taiwan waters and the routes of cross Taiwan Strait vessels. It is now operating, on a trial basis, with several remote broadcast sites and shipboard installations.
