            Abstract : 
The first results have shown the possibility of the efficient cw operation of a Cr4+:forsterite laser pumped by a Nd fiber laser. We believe that optimization of some elements and the configuration of the laser will allow us to obtain cw 1.24-μm radiation power of 1-2 W. This is quite enough for pumping 1.31-μm Raman fiber amplifiers
