Abstract
Design characteristics of steel-cored PMLSM (Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor) considering the running condition for short reciprocating travel displacements are presented. Particularly, dynamic constraints resulted from repeated short-stroke travel are applied to the design criteria determining the machine specification. In addition, distinctive undesirable feature of detent force in steel-cored PMLSM and its notable minimizing methods based on manufacturing feasibility are considered. Meanwhile, thermal consideration for regulating the maximum input current density, which is effective at primary design stage, is also performed.
