Abstract :
The nonuniform, maximally decimated quadrature mirror filter (QMF) bank is introduced. It permits the use of nonuniform filter responses, which is more suitable for some applications. A necessary condition for alias cancellation is derived for the case where all the decimation factors are integer-valued. A special case of the two-channel nonuniform AMF system with nonintegral decimation factors is analyzed, and a technique for canceling aliasing and minimizing other distortions is presented and illustrated by a design example
