Abstract :
The increasing production of energy from intermittent renewable sources (solar, wind) is also increasing the necessity of energy storage systems, which can provide a wide array of solutions to issues that affect electric power systems. This paper is aimed at summarizing the main characteristics of energy storage technologies, the factors that have to be considered for their selection, their main applications, and the type of models proposed for representing these technologies in economic and power system studies.
