Abstract :
We propose here a new material system to serve as host for Pr3+ dopant ions in planar and channel waveguide devices, which may include waveguide lasers, superluminescent light sources, and waveguide amplifiers. We report on light emission and amplification in Pr3+/Yb3+ co-doped ZrO2 films pumped at 975 nm. We have fabricated slab- and stripe-loaded channel waveguides with doped ZrO2 as the guide region
