Abstract :
The authors propose a procedure for determining the effect of probabilistic line outages on small disturbance stability analysis of a power system. A model for power systems is presented that incorporates small magnitude load and transmission line fluctuations, and configuration changes as a result of probabilistic transmission line outages. The corresponding energy function of this model is presented which satisfies the Lyapunov stability conditions. A performance index is presented for scanning over various ranges of system parameters and design options to examine the performance of a dynamic power system. An example of a simple power system is used for the purpose of testing the viability of the power system and the performance index
