Abstract :
The rapid acceleration of ATM technology leads B-ISDN to be a reality. Through the influence of ATM, the telecommunication industry is migrating to a broadband platform providing various services. This paper investigates the ATM switch evolution in terms of architecture, blocking and QoS (quality of service). Virtual path layout/capacity design which deeply affects the switch performance and switch architecture development is discussed. It is anticipated to be one of the most crucial ATM issues in the system level
