Abstract :
Mobile Ad hoc networks which are infrastructure less networks is an emerging topic of research. Flooding is vital and commonly used operation. Various sender-based and receiver-based flooding algorithms have been proposed in the literature. This research attempt proposes information-based flooding scheme. The proposed scheme has two algorithms namely the sender-phase algorithm and the receiver-phase algorithm. The sender-phase algorithm of the proposed work aids a node to select a subset of its neighbors to forward the flooding message. The sender-phase algorithm selects forwarding nodes with the highest contribution to flooding message dissemination. The receiver-phase algorithm complements the sender-phase algorithm, allowing the flooding scheme towards ensuring reliability. The performance metrics throughput, delay and packet delivery ratio are taken into account for simulation. Simulations are carried out using NS2 tool and the results proved that the proposed flooding mechanism outperforms better.
