Abstract :
Summary form only given. The radial acceletron is a new type of coaxially symmetric, high power microwave source using electron transit time effects to generate and sustain RF oscillations in the resonant cavity. The coaxial symmetry, low impedance, lack of external magnetic fields, and expected strong electron bunching result in a compact device with light weight and good power efficiency. Conceptual devices were designed using numerical simulation at the Air Force Research Laboratory (Phillips Site). A prototype device has been constructed; initial experimental data is here compared with numerical simulations conducted using the PIC codes MAGIC and XOOPIC.
