Abstract :
This paper discusses the key responsibility of the sign language translator for the betterment of interaction between customary people and Deaf and Dump community through Human to Computer Interaction (HCI). HCI is communication between the computer peripherals/components and human being. The system does not rely on gloves to achieve the recognition job. The sign language translator benefits the Deaf and Dumb people as well as normal people. We accomplished Hand Segmentation Using Lab Color Space (HSL) by extracting the `a´ component of the LAB image. The background is non-reflecting single color. The feature extraction is done with the help of Generalized Hough Transform technique. System is able to recognize 31 Tamil Language Alphabets equation.
