Abstract :
A novel computer-aided impedance characterization has been done on the basis of analytical model equations and suitable computer programs for the microwave resonant-cap circuits used in lMPATT sources. This provides the dependence of the load impedance (terminating the cap cavity) and also of the real and imaginary parts of the cap circuit impedance (at the device plane) on the cavity parameters and frequency. The results are in good qualitative agreement with the previously reported experimental observations and can give a better physical insight regarding the important characteristics of the cap circuit and optimum performance of the cap-type IMPATT sources
