Abstract
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th, 2009. One of the primary goals of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) through the ARRA was to fund electric infrastructure projects, and specifically stimulate the integration of a smart meter infrastructure. The DOE recognized the importance of smart meters and the role that this technology could play in optimizing the use of grid resources, improving grid stability and grid efficiency. This paper will address the results that one utility has had through early adoption of the technology and how this utility plans to integrate the grid with consumer and business networks to maximize grid performance.
