Abstract :
Low power electronics are the key enabling technology of a new class of highly functional portable information technology components and consumer products. The key challenge is to reduce power dissipation with minimal effect on computational performance. Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technologies offer the capability to maintain high device integration levels, reduce power supply voltages to <1 V, and concurrently reduce device capacitance, allowing high speed operation. Potential applications and technology insertion challenges for SOI are described
