Abstract
We present the performance of streaming services and radio usage efficiency obtained by applying the link layer acknowledged mode and a proposed transmission scheme in UMTS. The analytical result shows that this scheme can distinctly improve radio usage efficiency at the same packet loss ratio requirement of the application layer. According to the simulation results, the playout delay and jitter introduced by packet retransmission are ignorable when the receiver buffers the streaming service packets.
