Abstract
The author addresses the applicability of optimization by the simulated annealing method to the analysis of power systems. The theory of simulated annealing and applications to unit commitment, maintenance scheduling, and reactive power sources planning are presented. The author also shows the practical advantages and disadvantages of simulated annealing and foreseen applications
