Abstract :
Hierarchical Mobile IP is efficient for reducing signaling overhead. However, since user mobility characteristics are always changing, the preplanned network topology would become invalid or even lead to more signaling cost if no adjustment were to be adopted. The paper introduces a novel domain re-organizing algorithm for Mobile IP. When a high handoff frequency occurs between two neighboring access routers, which are yet in their respective different domains, the domain re-organizing scheme puts these two access routers into the same domain. In this way, the inter-handoff changes to intra-handoff. Simulation results show that the algorithm reduces the signaling cost and handoff delay.
