Abstract :
An extended biased sampling formula, based on the mobility model of D. Hong and S.S. Rappaport (see IEEE Trans. Veh. Technol., vol.VT-35, no.3, p.77-91, 1986), is used to compute the probability distribution functions (PDFs) of a mobile terminal´s speed, direction, travel distance and channel holding time in each handoff cell during its calling life. The results show that if a terminal needs more handoffs, then it is more probable for it to have higher speed, fewer normal directions, and longer travel distance. It is shown that the results of Hong and Rappaport and of H. Xie and D.J. Goodman (see ICUPC´93, p.803-7, 1993) and Xie and S. Kuek (see Proc. VTC´93, 1993) are all special cases of the results presented in the paper. All the derived formulas can be used as the basic components for the study of cellular systems.
