Abstract :
The author gives a synopsis of the salient aspects of Petri nets and activity networks. In view of the strong similarity between the two, a unified view is recommended that captures the best elements of both, which are the ease of expression in Petri nets and the analytical power of activity nets. The work of W.D. Allen (1992) in the automatic translation of timed Petri nets into activity nets is considered as the precursor of such a paradigm
