Abstract :
The unprecedented growth of the Internet in the past few years has revealed problems of management and scaling, which have been aggravated by an increasing need for group communications and by the proliferation of wireless mobile terminals. These have led to three of the main challenges of the present Internet: support for mobility; multicast communication; IPv6 deployment. The paper analyses the state-of-the-art in terms of unicast and multicast support in Mobile IPv6 environments. The analysis is carried out both in theoretical and practical terms in the context of the 6MNet project, whose main purpose is the study of new models that take advantage of the inherent properties of IPv6.
