  • Abstract
The gyrotron-backward wave oscillator (Gyro-BWO) is an efficient source of coherent, high-power microwaves over the centimeter to millimeter wavelength range. At the University of Strathclyde a project has been undertaken to create a Gyro-BWO in the W-band frequency band (75 -110GHz) outputting in continuous wave (CW) operation. The dispersion for the waveguide was found numerically, analytically and experimentally. Dispersion results from the constructed waveguide agreed with theory to a high degree. A novel Cusp electron beam source has been designed to drive the beam wave interaction. Simulations have been carried out using the 3D particle in cell code MAGIC and a 2A, 40kV electron beam has been created.
