Abstract :
As long as software designers utilize a model of the human to develop concepts of advanced intelligent systems, human factors will be needed to supply required information about how humans approach and solve problems. The author discusses the development of computer-oriented cognitive theories, their impact on software design concepts, and the importance of behavioral knowledge in the implementation of that design. Several suggestions at a very gross level are made on the characteristics of relevant knowledge in the context of interactive system development. The behavioral research needed for software design is emphasized
